Victor's Glass News

Hello! My name is Victor. This blog will contain all of the latest news about glass and my top tips about the installation, maintenance and removal of glass surfaces in your home. I first became interested in the subject of glass a couple of years ago when I asked a contractor to install a new glass splashback in my kitchen. As he worked, he talked about what he was doing and the various ways glass could be used to improve a home. I was hooked. Since then, I have learnt all I can about glass and have had lots of the stuff installed in my home.

Benefits of Installing a Frameless Shower

Whether you're renovating your whole bathroom or just updating the shower, installing frameless screens will have a massive impact on the decor. Here are some benefits of these enclosures.

Custom Options

A custom frameless shower offers many design options. You can create virtually any size and shape of shower. For example, you could opt for a square, rectangular or curved design. Rather than purchasing an off-the-shelf model, you can fit the shower to the size and shape of your bathroom. If it's small, you could alter the shower to be compact or construct a long, skinny shower to make the most of the available area. If you have a large bathroom, why stick with a standard size when you could build a luxurious shower that allows you to walk around?

Minimal Appearance

One of the most pleasing aspects of a frameless shower is its minimal appearance. These enclosures use extra thick, toughened glass that doesn't require much framing for support. Thus, the screens are connected with visually unobtrusive brackets and hinges. What stands out are the smooth, sleek pieces of glass. Plus, because the shower will appear almost invisible, the bathroom will seem bigger. The room won't be divided into two separate areas by bulky frames or curtains, but will form one unified space.

Easy to Maintain

The beauty of any element you install in your bathroom will soon fade if you have to spend hours cleaning and maintaining it. However, this won't happen with frameless glass screens, which only require simple upkeep. They don't need any periodic treatments like tiles do, such as sealing. All you'll have to worry about is cleaning.

Because glass is smooth and doesn't have grout lines, you can easily wipe it with a microfiber cloth or squeegee. The main areas you need to focus on are the joins between the glass and the metal hardware. These connection points create grooves that can trap moisture and grow mould. In any case, frameless models have barely any hardware, so they're easy to care for.

Glass Varieties

While transparent glass shower screens create a sense of space, you can opt for other varieties that are more opaque. For example, you could install frosted screens with etched patterns or textured glass moulded into shapes. These screens will turn the shower into a beautiful work of art. At the same time, they'll make it more secluded so you can enjoy some privacy.
